Background
Franklin Roosevelt was president during the Great Depression and World War II. He took office in March 1933 at the depth of the collapse, with banks closing across the country, and pushed a large body of legislation through Congress in his first hundred days, a benchmark every successor has been measured against since. He was elected four times, the only person to serve more than two terms, which is why the Twenty-second Amendment was written after his death. He died in April 1945, weeks before Germany surrendered, so he did not see the war end. His tenure touches several questions on the test: the term limit, the Great Depression, and the reason the country entered the Second World War.
