How many questions are on the 2025 citizenship test?
There are 128 questions in the official pool. During the naturalization interview a USCIS officer asks up to 20 of them out loud, and you must answer at least 12 correctly to pass.
Which version of the civics test do I take, the 100-question or the 128-question one?
It depends on the date you filed Form N-400, not on your interview date. Applications filed on or after October 20, 2025 use the 2025 version with 128 questions. Applications filed before that date use the 2008 version with 100 questions.
Is the citizenship test multiple choice?
No. The civics test is oral. The officer asks the question and you answer out loud, in your own words. That is why this site works as a self-check: read the question, answer it aloud, then reveal the official answer and mark yourself.
What is the 65/20 rule?
If you are 65 or older and have been a lawful permanent resident for 20 years or more, you study only the 20 questions marked with an asterisk. The officer asks 10 of those and you need 6 correct. You may also take the test in the language of your choice.
Are the questions on this site the real ones?
Yes. All 128 questions and every accepted answer are reproduced from the official USCIS question list for the 2025 version of the test. Nothing is paraphrased or invented. This site is not affiliated with USCIS, and the official list always governs.
