Background
Any one of these answers: Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Lucretia Mott, or Lucy Stone. The organized movement is usually dated from the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, which Mott and Stanton called and where Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments demanded the vote, a demand some attendees thought too radical to include. Anthony was arrested for voting in 1872 and used her trial as a platform. Truth, born into slavery, spoke for both abolition and women's rights and challenged white activists who wanted the two kept apart. Tubman is better known for leading people out of slavery on the Underground Railroad. None of them lived to vote in a federal election, since the Nineteenth Amendment came in 1920.
