Citizenship Test Answers for Ohio
Four of the 128 civics questions depend on where you live. Here is how to answer them if you live in Ohio.
62. What is the capital of your state?
Answer for Ohio
Columbus
This is the one state-specific answer that does not change. The three below change with elections. Every name on this page is checked each night against the congressional record and, for governors, two independent public records, and a name is left out rather than printed when the sources disagree.
23. Who is one of your state's U.S. senators now?
Answer for Ohio now
- Bernie Moreno
- Jon Husted
You only need to give one of these names.
Ohio has two U.S. senators, like every state. You only need to name one of them. Senators are elected to six-year terms, so this answer changes; give the name of a senator serving on the day of your interview.

29. Name your U.S. representative.
Your representative depends on your congressional district, not just your state, so it is different for two people living in the same city. Look it up by ZIP code.

Residents of territories with nonvoting Delegates or Resident Commissioners may provide the name of that Delegate or Commissioner. Also acceptable is any statement that the territory has no (voting) representatives in Congress.
61. Who is the governor of your state now?
Answer for Ohio now
Mike DeWine
Governors are elected and change, so answer with whoever is serving on the day of your
interview. Your state government's official .gov website is the reliable
place to check.
Background on Ohio
Columbus is Ohio's capital and its largest city, chosen in 1812 as a central site and built for the purpose, replacing Chillicothe and Zanesville. Ohio became the 17th state in 1803, the first carved out of the Northwest Territory. It has 15 congressional districts and 17 electoral votes. Ohio has an unusual claim on the innovation question: the Wright brothers ran their bicycle shop in Dayton and built their aircraft there before flying it in North Carolina, and Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, grew up in the state — landing on the moon is one of the accepted answers. The capital is the only fixed answer on this page.
This background section is written by US Citizenship Test Practice. It is not part of the USCIS question list, and it names no senator, representative or governor itself: those names change with elections, so they appear only in the answers above, which are checked every night.
